opie project humane society of st lucie county

The Humane Society of St. Lucie County launched the “Opie Project,” a creative initiative that partners with local restaurants to promote pet adoption. By attaching flyers of adoptable animals to takeout orders, the program helps connect shelter pets with potential families in a simple but impactful way.

Named after Opie, a longtime shelter dog who waited over 800 days for a home, the project has already led to multiple successful adoptions, including Opie himself. Local businesses like Big Apple Pizza and Sunrise City Cafe have joined the effort, helping some of the shelter’s longest-resident animals find loving homes.

With early success, the Humane Society is expanding the program and inviting more local businesses to participate. The goal is to increase visibility for adoptable pets and ultimately save more lives through community involvement.
